What are the system requirements for PC Tattletale to work on my PC?

* Windows Media Center – 2K – XP – 2K3 – Vista – Windows 7 (all versions)

* 500 Mhz or higher Intel or AMD processor - 1 GB RAM or higher

* 56.k (or faster) Internet Connection – 60 MB free hard drive space Internet

* Explore OR Firefox web browsers

* 1 GB of RAM that is the minimum requirement for the proper operation of the software.

Running PC Tattletale on a computer with less than 1 GB MB of RAM or if you are running memory intensive programs like Norton Anti-Virus, may require you lower the frequency of automatic screen captures.

Please note: PC Tattletale runs well with 512 MB of memory, but we like to see 1GB of memory or more for optimal performance.

Available memory allocation is limited by how many OTHER programs you have set to automatically load from the windows start up folder.

Running too many other programs at the same time and eat up available memory resources and cause your PC to run slowly.

As Internet security software manufacturers become more aggressive in listing different types of software in order to have “the largest & most comprehensive database,” all Parental control and Internet monitoring programs regardless of manufacturer will at some point probably be “tagged.”

My PC seems slower after installing PC Tattletale?

99 times out of 100, this problem is caused because your computer is running out of Windows system resources and or memory.

Now you may “think” you have enough physical memory in your machine, and you may, but what is important is to notice is how many other background processes are running on your computer.

It’s not uncommon for children to have 10 to 15 programs starting up at the same time as Windows.

When this happens the available memory left over for other programs like PC tattletale (or any other program for that matter) is greatly diminished.

*Solution: Check the Windows task bar on the bottom right hand corner next to the clock, and look to see how many icons you see there.

If you have more than four or five chances are your PC is starting to run out memory from the very moment it starts up!

Next go to the Windows START button and look for the start-up folder. Open at folder and see how many programs are there as well.

Now add all the programs you see here to the programs you find on the Windows task bar and you’ll get an idea how many different programs are running at time at Windows startup.

The easiest way to free up memory on your machine AND have it run faster and with less crashes is to delete the icons/program that you don’t absolutely need from the Windows startup folder and the task bar.

For example many people have Microsoft Office starting with Windows. It’s not necessary. Having Microsoft Office start up with Windows only really saves about one half of the second when launching a Microsoft office program.

By clearing out as many unnecessary program icons as you can you will find that your computer operates faster across-the-board, and PC Tattletale can operate more efficiently too!

When do I need to renew my PC Tattletale software license?

No need to worry about that. Once activated the software will keep track of time left on your license for you and automatically notify you when it’s time to renew; just like your anti-virus software does.

Common Issues For New Users:

PC Freezes or seems slow after installing PC Tattletale

99 times out of 100, this problem is caused because your computer is running out of Windows system resources and or memory.

Setting up PC Tattletale email reports

Changing the email address where you want to see in the monitoring reports sent by PC Tattletale is very easy to do.

1 – Open the PC Tattletale control Panel.

2 – Select the “Options” button on the lower section of the window.

3 – Select “Reflex Mail’ on the left side of the options window.

4 – Change your email address in the space provided. You will see your old email address there. Simply type the new e-mail address over the old address.

5 – Press the “Save and exit” link on the left hand side of the screen.

NOTE: You may still get emails sent to your old email address for a little while since PC Tattletale may have some older messages in queue.

Setting up web blocking

It is IMPORTANT to note that PC Tattletale’s first priority is to MONITOR what your child is doing online.

Therefore it’s “filtering” works differently then other dedicated internet filtering programs on the market.

PC Tattletale software does NOT contain a list of sites that it filters by default. Instead, PC Tattletale gives you the power to create your own blocking list.

You can specify any keyword or URL (Web site) that you want blocked.

Then if child tries to go to any web site that contains that tagged keyword or keywords, PC Tattletale covertly intervenes and automatically displays a “404 Page not found” error, thereby making these sites appear to be “unavailable” or “off-line” for some reason.

After several unsuccessful attempts to access these sort of sites, your child will naturally assume something is wrong with their ISP and get bored and surf off to find a more suitable topic.

If you however are more interested in trying to “Filter” your child’s internet experience, we suggest the following internet filtering programs as they are more suited to that specific need.

http://www.pcwebwatcher.com

http://www.cyberpatrolsoftware.com

http://www.spectorsoftpro.com

Monitoring MySpace.com

PC Tattletale captures your child’s MySpace.com login name and password and then logs them to email monitoring log of PC Tattletale for your review.

So now you can monitor your child’s MySpace.Com account via the screen captures function OR by using the capture information and actually logging into their actual MySpace.com account directly.

1.) PC Tattletale will capture the username/password and place it in the emails recording section of PC Tattletale.

If PC Tattletale’s Reflex Mail option is turned on, you will also be sent an email with the username/password to your child’s My Space account.

2.) PC Tattletale ALSO records reading and sending of emails. When it gets the read emails, you’ll see a picture of the person their kid is talking too!

*Feature 2 supported by Internet Explorer 7 and above at this time.
