The Dangers Teens Face Online:
Did you know that there exists on all most an unbelievable amount of inappropriate content exists in cyberspace?
Sure, you've probably read about it in the papers or heard about it on the news and maybe even run into a bit of it yourself online.
But as an adult spending less time online than the average teenager, you probably aren't aware of the true scope of dangerous content that assaults your child's eyes every time they go online.
For example:
-
There are over 1.7 MILLION Porn sites.
-
Sites that promote extremely hard-core pornography (both gay and heterosexual and child porn)
-
Web sites that promote hate and violence
-
Information on how to obtain drugs and alcohol
-
Promotional material for cults, satanic worship
-
Do-it-yourself recipes for meth-amphetamine production
-
And even at homemade bombs!
And with online pornography generating well over 6 BILLION dollars a year in business it's easy to see why 3-5 NEW porn sites go online every single minute of every day!
Another danger faced by children daily is the threat of sexual exploitation and the danger of enticement. It happens more often than you might think and child pornography is often used as bait by sexual predators to desensitize the target child when trying to " connect" to teens for sexual purposes.
Your teen can also be the victim of cyber stalking or Internet harassment. This can include the repeated unwanted contact through the Internet using instant messaging, e-mail, or chat rooms and often includes language that is threatening, violence and or obscene.
And lastly, viruses, Trojans and spyware are often sent can be sent and received maliciously or inadvertently through seemingly innocent downloads, e-mail communications and even via instant message clients, possibly damaging or destroying your family's computer hard drive.
The bottom line is that the Internet is not an appropriate place for your child to venture unsupervised. The risks far outweigh the benefits. So as a parent it is your duty to take responsibility for what your child does and sees online.
