Setting Parental Controls In The Major Search Engines:
Most search engines today in clean their listings by sending a search engine spider to crawl the Web, unlike others that use live human beings to review and categorize submitted pages.
The downside here is that it makes it easy for inappropriate or objectionable material to up here in your child's search results when using the Web.
To alleviate this problem most major search engines now offer some sort of filtering ability as a solution. These filters are meant to keep out things like pornography and other inappropriate material that parents don't want their children exposed to.
Unfortunately try as they might, the search engine filters filters are not always perfect. Occasionally inappropriate material will scoot past them while some legitimate content gets filtered out.

AllTheWeb: Use the "Basic Settings" page to turn on the "Offensive Content Filter" option.
AltaVista: Use the Family Filter Setup page to set up filters for this search engine
AOL Search: Doesn't offer a filter on their web-based search engine, but you have an AOL account enabling "Parental Controls" features have an impact on web search matches while AOL
Ask Jeeves: Use options for "Content Filtering" on the "Your Settings page" to set filters here or use Ask Jeeves For Kids.
Google: Read the "SafeSearch" help page at Google for simple set up instructions to enable filtering..
