An escaped Kansas sex offender is back in custody after attempting to register a used car at a Department of Motor Vehicles office in Missouri.
The Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office in Kansas said in a news release that George Dudley had bought the car after he escaped Monday while at the Wyandotte County Courthouse for a hearing.
The 62-year-old former Edwardsville man was caught Tuesday afternoon at the DMV office in Kansas City, Mo.
Dudley was convicted in 1997 on three counts of indecent solicitation of a child.
Monday’s hearing was to discuss a request for a new lawyer and complain about his confinement. Dudley had served his sentence but remained civilly committed as a sexual predator.
Wyandotte County prosecutors have charged him with aggravated escape from custody.
