Three convicted sex offenders have been newly charged with offenses related to sex and minors in an investigation that police said began in February.

Two of them are accused of sexually abusing a 15-year-old boy, police said Wednesday.  All three suspects live in the 4500 block of Evans Avenue.

Police identified them as:

— Bobby Plain, 34, charged with three counts of second-degree statutory sodomy, sexual exploitation of a minor and possession of child pornography. He was held in lieu of a $200,000 bond.

* Kurt Carson, 42, charged with three counts of second-degree statutory sodomy and sexual exploitation of a minor. He also was held in lieu of $200,000 bond.

*Adam Derby, 27, charged with one count of child pornography. He was held in lieu of a $100,000 cash-only bond.

Police said they began investigating after learning that pornographic sexual images of a child were readily available at the home on Evans.

Using a search warrant, detectives found “numerous video and still images depicting minors engaged in sexual acts,” according to police spokeswoman Katie O’Sullivan.

Police also found that the teenage boy had been “sexually abused by two of the suspects, she said.

The three men were arrested Friday.

In March, the trio had been the subject of a Post-Dispatch column by Bill McClellan that examined how convicted sex offenders deal with limits on where they can work and live.

Derby dropped out of school at 15 and got his diploma from Job Corps. He was accused of molesting a relative’s 3-year-old son, pleaded guilty and got a suspended imposition of sentence and five years on probation. His father also had been convicted of child molestation.

Derby moved to Howard County, Mo., where police found child pornography on his computer. He got two years in prison. After his release, he moved in with Carson and Plain.

Plain was previously convicted of molesting a 9-year-old, Carson of a 16-year-old boy. All three have been required to register as sex offenders.
